Every Family Activity on the Disney Fantasy, Ranked

Every Family Activity on the Disney Fantasy, Ranked

We tried every activity on the Disney Fantasy with four kids under 8 and ranked them all. Here's our complete family activity ranking with scores for fun, cons, and family-friendliness.

Updated September 7, 2026

We spent eight sea days on the Disney Fantasy during a transatlantic cruise with four kids (ages 1, 4, 5, and 7) and tried every activity the ship had to offer. Then we ranked them all using a scoring system that accounts for fun, downsides, and how many family members can actually participate.

If you're planning a Disney cruise with little kids, this is the list you need. We also have a kiddo with Down syndrome, so you'll get some accessibility perspective mixed in.

How We Scored Each Activity

We used three categories to rate every activity on the Disney Fantasy:

Fun Meter (1-10): How much fun is this for the people who participated? A pure enjoyment score.

Deductions: Points taken away for negatives like extra cost, long lines, limited availability, or bad timing. The fewer deductions, the better.

Family Approval (1-5): How many people in the family can experience this? Parents share one point (since one or both can attend), and each kid who can participate earns a point. A 5/5 means the whole family can join in.

The total score is the sum of all three categories. The highest possible score is 15.

Top Tier: Activities the Whole Family Can Enjoy

#1 Character Dance Party (Total: 15)

Our number one activity on the Disney Fantasy, and it earned every point. The Fab Five plus Chip and Dale rotate around the atrium, dancing with kids and families. Your child will get plenty of one-on-one time with each character. No extra cost, no lines to worry about, and every single member of our family had a blast. Perfect score: 10 for fun, zero deductions, 5/5 family approval.

#2 Disney Junior Dance Party (Total: 14)

This event happens once during your sailing, and characters show up at the end, which is the only reason it doesn't get a perfect fun score. But there are zero complaints otherwise. You just show up, the kids dance, and everyone has a great time. No cost, no scheduling required, and all ages can participate.

#3 Character Meet and Greets (Total: 14)

The characters on Disney Cruise Line are next-level. Stitch tried to eat our autograph book. Captain Hook sent me to walk the plank. The kids were loving every second. The only downside is the lines, and if you don't get in line at the right time, they'll cut you out. Still, the whole family can participate, earning a 5/5 on family approval.

#4 Midship Detective Agency (Total: 14)

One of our family's all-time favorite Disney Cruise Line activities. It's only available on the Dream and the Fantasy, and it's a 10/10 on fun. Free, no lines, no complaints. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect family score is our toddler wasn't quite old enough to get into it yet. If you're on either of these ships, don't skip this one.

High Scorers Worth Planning For

#5 Royal Gathering (Total: 12)

Our girls live for the princess meet and greet, and it scores a 9/10 on fun. You do need to schedule in advance, and spots fill up fast in the app about 30 days before sailing. Pro tip: you can usually book when you arrive at the port while waiting to board. Our son wasn't into it, so family approval comes in at 4/5.

#6 Pool (Total: 11)

The pool is great, but as a parent, you're on constant watch duty, which takes some of the fun out of it. On our transatlantic sailing, the ship wasn't too crowded, which helped. No deductions at all, and there's Funnel Vision playing above. Family approval drops to 3/5 because not all of our kids are potty trained.

#7 Water Slides (Total: 11)

A 10/10 on the fun scale. The lines are the biggest problem, and there's no way to check wait times in the app like you can at the parks. You're just guessing when to go. Not all kids meet the height or age requirements either, so family approval is 3/5.

#8 Basketball (Total: 11)

One of my personal favorites. When you're leaving port, you can play basketball with the kids and still enjoy the scenery. You get a full view of the port and surroundings, and you don't have to be glued to the pool watching little ones. Everyone can participate (even if they're just running around), earning a 5/5 on family approval. Only deduction: the court isn't always open because of Paulo's schedule on the Fantasy.

#9 Bippity Boppity Boutique (Total: 11)

A classic Disney experience that scores a perfect 10 for fun. But it costs extra, costumes aren't guaranteed to be in your size, and kids under 3 can't participate. Bring your own costume as a backup to avoid meltdowns. The deductions add up, though the experience itself is worth every point.

Middle of the Pack

#10 Mini Golf (Total: 10)

A 6/10 on fun because tiny humans don't always use the clubs the way they're supposed to. No cons otherwise. Our toddler didn't really know what she was doing out there, so it gets a 4/5 on family approval. Still a good time for the older kids.

#11 Deck 4 (Total: 10)

Not the most exciting activity on paper. The kids don't beg to go to Deck 4. But we think it's fun to walk around and explore, and there are zero cons. Free, chill, and everyone can participate. A solid 5/5 on family approval.

#12 Pirate Night (Total: 10)

Pirate Night itself is a 10/10 for fun. The fireworks, the energy, the whole atmosphere. But timing is the problem. On our transatlantic cruise, there was no 7:30 show, and our kids go to bed around 7:00-7:30. Only the adults got to experience it, dropping family approval to 2/5. If you're on the Fantasy, the Meridian Bar right outside Apollo is the best adults-only spot for the fireworks.

Fun but With Caveats

#13 Splash Pad (Total: 9)

A 9/10 fun score for the little ones. But there's no seating near the splash pad, so if your kids are in there for hours, you're just standing. We also docked points for age limits and the fact that some sprayers need maintenance. Fix your sprayers, Disney. Family approval is 2/5 since some of our kids have aged out.

#14 Shows (Total: 8)

We had Aladdin and a few other shows on this sailing, and they're genuinely great. But the show times are brutal for families with young kids. When your kiddos go to bed around 7:00-7:30 and there are no matinees, you're either skipping the show or skipping dinner to see it. Without grandma along to watch the kids, you might have to choose between sleep and the show.

#15 Goofy Sports Simulator (Total: 8)

A newer experience for us. Our son loved it and scored a 7/10 on fun. It's about a 30-minute booking and does cost extra, which means a deduction. Not everyone in the family could participate, so the family approval score stays low. A good option if you have a kid who isn't interested in the Bippity Boppity Boutique.

#16 Silent DJ (Total: 8)

We really wanted this one to rank higher. It was fun for the adults, but our kids weren't into the headphones. And when you take the headphones off, there's no music, so they lost interest fast. Only three out of five family members enjoyed it. At different ages and stages, this one could rank much higher.

Activities the Whole Family Can Do Together

Only five activities on the Disney Fantasy earned a perfect 5/5 family approval score, meaning every member of our family of six could participate: Character Dance Party, Disney Junior Dance Party, Character Meet and Greets, Deck 4, and Basketball.

If you have a baby or toddler alongside older kids, this is important to keep in mind. The activities that work for everyone are the ones where age and height requirements aren't a factor.

Tips for Sea Days With Little Kids

Book the Royal Gathering early. Open the app as soon as booking opens (30 days before sailing), or try at the port while waiting to board.

Bring your own costume for BBB. The Bippity Boppity Boutique doesn't guarantee they'll have your child's size or preferred costume in stock. Having a backup prevents meltdowns.

Plan around show times. If your kids go to bed before 8:00, you'll likely miss some evening entertainment. Check the schedule early and decide what's worth a late night.

Prioritize the character dance parties. They're free, don't require booking, and were our best sea day moments. Just show up.

Don't skip Midship Detective Agency. If you're on the Dream or Fantasy, this free activity kept our older kids entertained for hours with zero lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best family activity on the Disney Fantasy?

The Character Dance Party in the atrium is the top-ranked family activity. It scored a perfect 15/15 in our ranking: 10/10 for fun, zero deductions, and a 5/5 family approval rating because everyone from toddlers to adults can participate.

Can toddlers do the water slides on the Disney Fantasy?

No, the water slides have age and height requirements that toddlers won't meet. The water slides scored a 3/5 on our family approval rating because not all of our kids (ages 1-7) could ride them. The splash pad and pool are better options for younger kids, though the splash pad also has age limits.

Do you have to pay extra for activities on a Disney cruise?

Most activities on the Disney Fantasy are included with your cruise fare. The two main exceptions in our ranking are the Bippity Boppity Boutique and the Goofy Sports Simulator, which both have an extra cost. Character meet and greets, dance parties, shows, the pool, water slides, basketball, mini golf, and Midship Detective Agency are all free.

What is Midship Detective Agency on Disney Cruise Line?

Midship Detective Agency is an interactive mystery game available only on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. You use an enchanted painting card to solve clues around the ship. It's free, has no lines, and scored a 14/15 in our family ranking. It's one of the best activities for older kids on a sea day.

When is Pirate Night on a Disney cruise?

Pirate Night typically happens once during your sailing, but the timing varies by itinerary. On our transatlantic Disney Fantasy cruise, there was no early 7:30 show, which made it tough for families with young kids who go to bed early. Check your cruise schedule as soon as it's available so you can plan around bedtimes.
